Following her debut as a soloist under conductor Zubin Mehta at the concert celebrating the 70th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of Spain, Ana María Valderrama has established herself as one of the most acclaimed Spanish violinists of the moment and a clear emerging talent on the European music scene.
Winner of the 1st Prize and the Audience Special Prize at the 11th Pablo Sarasate International Violin Competition (2011), she became the first Spanish violinist in history to win this prestigious award. She has also triumphed at the Lisbon and Novosibirsk international violin competitions and the Intercentros Melómano competition, among others, taking her to perform in England, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Mexico, Colombia, Jordan, Tunisia and the United States.
She has appeared as a soloist with the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the Basque National Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony, the St. Petersburg Academic Symphony and the Yucatán Symphony, under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Ros Marbà, Salvador Brotons, Max Valdés and Michel Tabachnik. She studied with Zakhar Bron and Yuri Volguin at the Reina Sofía School of Music —where she was named Most Outstanding Student of the Violin Chair— and completed her master's in Berlin with Antje Weithaas and Nora Chastain. Her discography includes two albums for Naxos, the tribute À mon ami Sarasate with pianist Luis del Valle and Brahms & Franck with Víctor del Valle. She is professor of violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid.
